Tove Styrke – Samurai Boy

This week saw the release of Tove Styrke’s Borderline EP. We’ve already had the belting Even If I’m Loud Doesn’t Mean I’m Talking To You and Borderline, but what of the new songs? In some of the highest praise we can give, none of them would sound hugely out of place on a Girls Aloud album, but right now we’re loving Samurai Boy, even if it is partly because in places the synths put us in mind of The Knife. There have been a lot of brilliant EPs out of Sweden recently – Seinabo Sey, Snoh Aalegra, Elliphant – but this one stands out as being excellent, modern pop.
